Okay, so recently i have had and my friends have had various piercings, so i thought we could share our wisdom with you about how much it hurts and the best way of cleaning etc. Its better to be safe than sorry, and were not going to lie.
So the three piercings were going to go through are (i think) the most common, Ear piercing (lobes), Ear piercing (cartlidge / tragus / rook, etc..), and the lip piercing (or snakebites, monroe, spider bites, etc.).
Ear Piercing – Lobes.
So i had this done on Thursday 20th. I know many people have them done when they are babies but my mum always wanted me to have the choice, plus she thinks piercing a baby is wrong. I was really really scared for my lobes because of the gun and i dont like the idea of someone not being in control of what is going on. Now – i couldn’t of been more wrong! I had mine done by the same woman that has done all my piercings and she explained that aslong as the piercist is using the newest gun you should be okay. The gun that my lady used enabled her to never even touch anything that was touching my ear, it was really really clean as all the area that touched my ear (and surrounding areas) were just thrown away after, and then the gun was sterilised – even though it didnt go anywhere near my ear.
Now, on to the actual piercing bit. A lot of people say the gun makes a loud “click” and that will startle you, the gun i had used didnt make a noise at all apart from when she begun to move it, but the actual piercing did not make a noise.
Secondly, the pain factor. Personally, i am a massive wuss to pain and i would be the one if any to let you know if it hurt. For me – it did not. A lot of people say it is like “a hard pinch” but it wasn’t as bad as that. Also – any pain you do feel is short lived, as it is over within a second. The most painful bit was paying for it for me – haha!
On a pain scale, i’d say literally about a 0.5 out of 10.
The best way for looking after it is to clean with an antiseptic (i used TCP) twice a day – some places give you their own lotion, if you are given some, use it! =D Turn the earring once/twice a day from two days after you have had them pierced – after washing your hands with antibacterial soap, take the earring and gently turn one way, and then the other – this breaks up any “crusties” that may gather from seepage, and prevents the earring getting stuck. =D REMEMBER :- NEVER TOUCH A PIERCING BEFORE CLEANING YOUR HANDS WITH ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP OR ANTIBACTERIAL HAND GEL/SPRAY.
Ear piercing – Cartlidge / Rook / Tragus.
Now my friend had this done around 3 weeks ago, it was done with a needle as guns can shatter cartlidge. DO NOT go somewhere where they pierce cartlidge with a gun, it can cause shattering and massive infecton if that happens.
My friend is a lot less of a wuss than me so i can’t vouch if this will be the same for you, however she said it hurt more afterwards. She said the piercing may of been about a 4/5 out of 10 for her, but afterwards it was about a 6 as it stung and is still sore now.
She said it is worth it though, and that it does not hurt as much as you would imagine it would, it’s a lot quicker than you imagine too, even going through the hard bit of your ear.
The best way of looking after is the same as an ear piercing, but be a lot more thorough and maybe clean with antiseptic 3 times a day – cartlidge is a higher risk of infection. REMEMBER :- NEVER TOUCH A PIERCING BEFORE CLEANING YOUR HANDS WITH ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP OR ANTIBACTERIAL HAND GEL/SPRAY.
So i have had this done myself twice, and both time i was anesthatised, so im going to go on mine and a friends who has also had it done twice’s oppinion.
The lip is done with a needle, and then the bar put in afterwards.
As for the pain rating, for me it was less than ear piercing as it was numb, however for my friend she said it was about a 3/10 and described the feeling as scratchy on the inside of your lip, but its done super fast. And for me the most painful bit was putting in the bar, not the piercing itself.
The best way i found for looking after this was using a anti-bac mouthwash twice a day, and salt water twice a day too (2/3 teaspoons of water disolved in 1 cup of boiled water) i kept this in a little bottle by my sink and when i was brushing my teeth every day i just used it then. REMEMBER :- NEVER TOUCH A PIERCING BEFORE CLEANING YOUR HANDS WITH ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP OR ANTIBACTERIAL HAND GEL/SPRAY.
Remember, the more you get worried about a piercing, the more it will hurt as you are tensing yourself, take a few deep breaths before it happens, and remember a good piercist will never hurt you unless they have too – more than most wont hurt you much at all.
GOOD PLACES TO GET PIERCED :-
TATTOO PARLORS.
PIERCING SPECIALISTS.
SOME LICENCED HAIR SALONS / BEAUTY SPA’S.
WHY?
these people more than most have to be properly trained within a wide range of ways or piercing and different types, they also know how to avoid the most nerves to stop it hurting as much & will use fit for purpose special jewellery and use the latest equipment with the cleanest way of piercing. Troubleshooting is taught as basics, they will know exactly what to do in a situation (which is very rare).
BAD PLACES TO GET PIERCED :-
STORES EG. CLAIRES.
WHY?
training is limited to only a 1 day crash course in using a gun, less experience means more than likely a worse piercing, cleanliness is lower & troubleshooting is not taught – if something goes wrong, they don’t know anymore than you do!
